ABOUT DAVID
David Gusakov, the composer for
Wedding Music Originals, graduated from Yale University in 1971. He moved
to Vermont in 1973, joining the Vermont Symphony that year and a popular
bluegrass band, Pine Island, the next. In the 30 years since, David has
established himself as the most versatile musician in the state, playing
with numerous classical ensembles as well as various bluegrass, swing
and jazz groups in that time.
It has been in writing original material for these various performing
ensembles that David has developed his composing skills and style, producing
works as diverse as classical string quartets, fiery Slavic-flavored
instrumentals, and soulful songs of backwoods Vermont.
As a recording artist, David has appeared on several dozen recordings,
most notably 3 albums with Scottish folksinger Jean Redpath, as well
as two recordings with the rock-jam band Phish. Currently he performs
and records with the Will Patton ensemble, an acoustic gypsy-jazz group.
As a violin teacher, he was a member of the Middlebury College music
faculty from 1982-1994, and currently maintains a private studio in Bristol,
Vt. As a conductor, David has led the Amateur Musicians Orchestra, a
50-piece group, in concerts since 1994, a youth string orchestra also
since 1994, and in November, 2004 premiered a high-caliber chamber orchestra,
the Champlain Philharmonic, in its debut concert at Middlebury College.
Since 1979 David has lived with his wife Anne in a "folk-Victorian" home
in Bristol, where they enjoy the beautiful seasons and scenery of Vermont,
while staying in touch with their collegiate sons, Nate and Will. |
